Remove Content Credentials from Adobe Firefly and Photoshop AI Edits

Adobe attaches Content Credentials to images generated with Firefly and to Photoshop exports that used generative features such as Generative Fill or Generative Expand. The credentials record the AI action, and the IPTC data can say compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia. That is why a photo with one small AI fix can be labeled on social media. BlankAI removes these records from a copy of the file.

Why one small edit gets an AI label

Removing a stray object with Generative Fill counts as an AI edit, so Photoshop records it. Instagram and other platforms read those records. Photographers have complained since 2024 that ordinary photos get labeled after minor fixes, and a June 2026 Adobe community thread reports that credentials stay even after the AI layers are deleted.

Since September 2024, Meta shows the label for AI-edited images in the post menu rather than on the image, which softened the problem but did not remove it.

When to keep the credentials

Content Credentials can work for you. They can carry your name as the creator and show a documented editing history, which matters for journalism, competitions and clients who ask how an image was made. Adobe's Content Authenticity app lets you attach your identity to your work. If that is your goal, keep the credentials and clean only copies meant for other uses.

Firefly in 2026

Firefly Image 5 has been generally available since March 2026. In June Adobe added a creative agent across Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator and InDesign. Both follow the same Content Credentials approach.

The same rules apply to every file, whatever made it. BlankAI cleans the metadata that travels with a file. It cannot reach anything that is part of the image itself.

Questions

Why does Instagram say “AI info” on my edited photo?

Photoshop's generative features write AI records into the file: C2PA credentials and an IPTC digital source type. Meta reads those signals. An independent 2026 test found Instagram reacted to the IPTC field.

Can I turn off Content Credentials in Photoshop?

Photoshop applies them automatically when generative features are used, and users report they persist even after the AI layer is deleted. Cleaning an export removes them from that copy.

Does removing credentials affect my copyright?

No. Copyright does not depend on metadata. You do lose the embedded record that names you as the creator.
