Remove Metadata from Meta AI Images

Meta has marked images from its AI tools since 2024. Older Imagine images carry IPTC metadata, an invisible watermark and a visible “Imagined with AI” mark. Muse Image, launched on 7 July 2026, adds an invisible watermark Meta calls Content Seal and no visible mark. BlankAI removes the metadata layer. Content Seal and any visible mark stay.

Content Seal and Meta's detector

Meta launched a detector alongside Muse Image at meta.ai/identification. It is a preview, it only recognizes Muse Image output, and it does not read SynthID or C2PA, so it cannot check images from Google or OpenAI. Content Seal is not interoperable with those systems.

Labels on Instagram and Facebook

Meta labels content as “AI info” when it detects industry-standard AI signals or when you disclose AI use. Since September 2024, images that were only edited with AI show the label in the post menu rather than on the image. Images from Meta's own tools are identified by Meta directly.

What cleaning changes

Cleaning removes any IPTC or other metadata in the file you saved. It does not remove Content Seal, so Meta can still identify a Muse image after cleaning.

What BlankAI removes, and what it does not

The same rules apply to every file, whatever made it. BlankAI cleans the metadata that travels with a file. It cannot reach anything that is part of the image itself.

Questions

Does Meta AI add a watermark to images?

Yes. Muse Image output carries the invisible Content Seal. Older Imagine images also had a visible “Imagined with AI” mark.

Can Meta tell an image came from Muse after I clean it?

Yes. Content Seal is in the pixels, and Meta's detector reads it regardless of metadata.

Does BlankAI remove Content Seal?

No. BlankAI removes file metadata only.
