TikTok “AI-generated” Label: What TikTok Reads and What You Must Disclose

TikTok reads C2PA Content Credentials on upload and labels AI-generated content automatically, a system it started in May 2024. It attaches its own C2PA data to content made with TikTok's AI tools, says that data stays on downloads, and has been testing an invisible watermark since November 2025. By July 2026 TikTok had labeled more than 3 billion videos. Creators must also label realistic AI content themselves.

How the automatic label works

When an upload carries Content Credentials from an AI tool, TikTok applies its AI-generated label. TikTok joined the C2PA steering committee and reported in July 2026 that more than 3 billion videos had been labeled through credentials, its own watermark and creator labels.

Your responsibility as a creator

TikTok's rules require you to label realistic AI-generated content, and it can label or remove content that should have been disclosed. Removing credentials from a file removes one automatic trigger; it does not change the rule.

Does TikTok detect AI images without C2PA?

TikTok watermarks content made with its own AI tools and relies on creator labels. It can also apply labels after review.

Will removing C2PA stop TikTok's AI label?

It removes the automatic C2PA trigger. TikTok still requires you to label realistic AI content and can apply the label itself.

Do TikTok downloads contain C2PA?
