PNG chunks
PNG stores metadata in named chunks next to the image data: tEXt, zTXt and iTXt for text, eXIf for EXIF, iCCP for color profiles and caBX for C2PA Content Credentials. AI tools use these chunks for prompts and workflows, and screenshots use them to record that they are screenshots. BlankAI rewrites the PNG without them and keeps transparency.
PNG stays PNG, lossless and with its alpha channel.

Screenshots from macOS and iOS record that they are screenshots, when they were taken, and sometimes the device. That is harmless most of the time, and unwelcome when you post a screenshot you want to keep anonymous.
PNG compression is lossless, so the clean copy has exactly the same pixels. The file size can differ from the original because the browser uses its own compression settings.
The same rules apply to every file, whatever made it. BlankAI cleans the metadata that travels with a file. It cannot reach anything that is part of the image itself.
